Every board has its own history
Reclaimed material takes its movement from whatever species and cut the original timber was, and from decades of service in conditions nobody recorded. That is why no coefficient is quoted on this page: the honest figure is per-board and unknowable in advance. It is also why moisture testing on site matters more here than for new material, where a mill certificate tells you where the stock started.

What testing actually resolves
NWFA's protocol still applies and does most of the work: readings at a minimum of 20 test locations for the first 1,000 square feet plus 4 per additional 100 square feet, averaged, recorded and photographed. On reclaimed stock that average is what tells you whether the material has equilibrated to the space it is about to be installed in — which is the question that decides whether a century-old board behaves or moves.

Old growth is a real difference, and not a measured one
Reclaimed oak often shows tighter growth rings than new material, which is a genuine and visible characteristic. It is not something we will attach a number to: ring count varies board to board, FPL's published coefficients are species-level rather than growth-rate-level, and a quantified stability claim from it would be invented. The look is the reason to buy it; the testing is what makes it perform.
Honest limits
These are what the standards require, not a guarantee of outcome. The flooring manufacturer's written instructions govern wherever they are stricter.
