Winters are wet and mild rather than freezing. January normals at Sacramento Executive Airport are a 56°F high and a 39°F low, with 3.66 inches of rain; annual precipitation is about 18 inches, nearly all of it falling November through March. NWS Sacramento reports that snow is so rare it 'may be disregarded as a climatic feature.' Winter runs the same cycle in reverse. Solid hardwood is a hygroscopic material: it moves with the seasons for its whole service life, and an install that ignores that is an install that telegraphs every season change through the floor.

Elk Grove has no direct coastal exposure.
